Katelynn Jarrells is the upper-level student success advisor. Katelynn's primary social work interests include trauma informed practices, racial equity, mental health, and professional wellness. She has worked in case management, group facilitation, and in policy and program coordination roles and highly values her education in generalist social work.

Katelynn’s advising philosophy follows the principles of empathy, diversity, development, competence and continuing professional development. These values follow a holistic model of student support which includes all aspects of physical and mental health, academic and personal success, and the different roles students occupy in their daily lives. In addition to adhering to those values, Katelynn is a resource and a mentor, but also a lifelong learner and ally for students.

Katelynn was previously employed by a local nonprofit, Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) as the Operations Coordinator. At SCAN, she worked with children and families in a variety of contexts and gained skills in administrative practices and program management. Her contributions to SCAN include the creation and chairing of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, implementing multiple employee wellness initiatives, and membership on the Trauma Informed Policy and Trauma Informed Education Committees as part of the larger Trauma Informed Community Network which SCAN convenes.

Katelynn considers herself an amature movie critic, enjoys running and reading, and loves to find, try and discuss new places to eat in Richmond.
