Sunghwan Cho is a second-year doctoral student. He is an ordained Catholic priest from the Archdiocese of Seoul, Republic of Korea. His research interests focus on older adults’ access to healthcare systems and technology, older adults’ mental health in residential care settings and health disparities among older racial/ethnic minorities.
Cho received his Bachelor of theology and Master in Canon Law from the Catholic University of Korea. After his ordination, he served two parishes and local communities as an assistant priest. His exposure to social services while working in a correctional facility and in an adult day care center for older adults led to his interest in Social Work. He holds a Master of Social Work from St. Catherine University - University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he completed a competitive scholarship program in the Area Emphasis in Aging (AEA). The program required a year-long internship, required coursework and specific electives, research, leadership and service learning activities that focused on practice with older adults and their families. While in Minnesota, he completed his internship at Catholic Charities – Aging Disability Service (ADS) and Birchwood Care Home. In his free time, Cho enjoys traveling, hiking, reading novels and cooking.
