Daniel Baslock joined the faculty at the VCU School of Social work as an assistant professor in August 2024. He earned his M.S.W. from New York University, will graduate with his Ph.D. in social work from New York University in September 2024. During his Ph.D. studies, he participated in the NIDA funded T32 Behavioral Health Sciences Training Program at New York University’s Rory Meyers School of Nursing as a pre-doctoral fellow. Daniel researches the implementation and utilization of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder treatment within rural community settings. His research utilizes large data sets, including electronic health record repositories to assess the impact of social policies, like payment reform initiatives, on the accessibility and quality of co-occurring care.

As a teacher, Daniel provides instruction rooted in a relational and transformative pedagogy, informed by his past clinical experience. He seeks to foster collaboration and community in the classroom to help students develop their critical thinking and clinical skills. He enjoys learning about teaching and incorporating novel instructional methods into his courses.

Prior to being a researcher, Daniel was a clinician and supervisor in community mental health and substance use treatment programs in Vermont for nearly 10 years.
