Student ambassadors

The School of Social Work student ambassadors serve as the school's advocates on the admissions team. Ambassadors can discuss any questions you have about the student experience, work-life balance, and even show you the hot spots on a tour. Connect with one of them today by emailing sswinfo@vcu.edu!

Miangle Brooks, B.S.W. student

My name is Miangel, and I am originally from Norfolk, Virginia. My favorite things to do are dancing, and hanging out with my friends in the park. I like being a social work student because there is a community at VCU, and there are so many clubs for social workers and people willing to help you. Whether it's with the coursework or finding a field you want to work in, there is always someone you can go to for help.

Lindsay Cunningham, M.S.W. student

My name is Lindsay, and I am a first-year student in the M.S.W. Program. I received dual undergraduate degrees in psychology (concentration in addiction studies) and urban/regional planning from VCU. My career interests include criminal justice reform, harm reduction education and holistic treatment modalities. In my free time, I love to make art, spend time outside, and explore Richmond's many festivals and museums!

Eva Ramirez, M.S.W. student

Hi, my name is Eva, and my preferred pronouns are she/her. I'm from Arlington, Virginia, but my parents are from El Salvador. I love Marvel and D.C, but I also love watching movies and shows, sleeping and going on adventures.

What I like about being an SSW student is field. I enjoyed my past field placement and am loving my current one. I love that we get not only the traditional learning aspect by having classes but also real-world experience with field placements.

Angela-Marie Rone, B.S.W. student

My name is Angela-Marie, and I am a senior pursuing my undergraduate education toward a dual degree in social work and psychology. In addition, I am a member of Phi Alpha Social Work Honor Society at VCU.

My areas of interests include child welfare, mental health, legal and criminal justice, adolescent and youth empowerment, and trauma-informed care. My future goals include obtaining her M.S.W. and LCSW. In addition, I hope to work with youth transitioning out of the foster care system. During my personal time, I enjoy traveling, exploring different restaurants and places in Richmond, and attending events and concerts.
