Kade Goldin is a first-year Ph.D. student at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social work. Kade previously attended Bloomsburg University, where they received a Bachelor of Science in education, double majoring in special education and elementary education, with a minor in Spanish. Kade remained at BU to complete a Master of Education in school administration and aided in research supporting the employment of individuals with disabilities. In 2016, Kade was a recipient of the CalSWEC Title IV-E Public Child Welfare Stipend and completed their Master of Social Work program from California State University San Marcos.

Kade taught special education for five years and worked closely with students experiencing disruptions to learning both in and outside of school. In 2017, Kade co-founded a nonprofit organization that aims to alleviate youth homelessness and provide an accessible space for community resources. Kade then worked for child welfare services where they received recognition from the juvenile court system for excellence in advocacy and engagement with children and families. In 2021, Kade began working as a school social worker and assisted with developing the district’s first comprehensive school social work program. Kade most recently taught as an adjunct professor in the Master of Social Work program at Portland State University.

Kade comes to VCU with a desire to engage in community-based participatory research that aids in the development of programs and resources for local neighborhoods. Kade’s research interests include school social work, LGBTQIA+ youth, and the implementation of community resource initiatives.

In their free time, Kade enjoys trail running, camping, going to outdoor concerts, spending time with friends and visiting their nieces in New Jersey.
