As a senior recruitment specialist, LaKesha supports both prospective undergraduate (B.S.W.) and graduate (M.S.W.) social work students from inquiry to enrollment. Recruitment specialists are responsible for facilitating student success by providing leadership to development, implementation, coordination and management of established recruitment-related initiatives and strategic goals of the university, school, program and Office of Student Success through outreach and partnership with Virginia community colleges and high school guidance departments and those interested in pursuing a master's degree in social work.
LaKesha earned a B.A. degree in government with a concentration in political science and a minor in sociology from the University of Virginia's College at Wise.
Most recently LaKesha worked for Truist Bank in mortgage financial servicing for 12 years, where she served as the subject matter expert on repurchases and payee header setup and team lead for 3 years of the repurchase team.
Previously LaKesha completed certified nursing assistant technical training and worked as a personal care assistant throughout college.
Her previous recruitment experience includes working for five years as an outreach and admission counselor at Virginia Job Corps, a program for youth 16-24 years of age. She was recognized for maintaining the state's highest retention numbers for consecutive years. LaKesha was designated as the trainer for all newly hired admissions counselors for Virginia.
She completed an internship at Virginia Tech in the Office of Student Affairs working with Greek life housing resident advisors.
In her personal time (and all the time), LaKesha loves to sing and cook for family & friends!
