Marianne Lund, M.S.W., M.Ed., certified teacher, is a second-year social work doctoral student at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work. She has worked as a teacher, a community-based translator, fundraiser, a parent and community gardener for the past 20 years. Teaching, be it as an educator, social worker, translator or community-engaged activist, has been at the heart of her work with adolescents, their families and the immigrant community in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Lund received her bachelor’s from Mount Holyoke College (1995), majoring in Latin American politics, Spanish and women's studies. She completed her Master in the Art of Teaching at University of Pittsburgh (1997). At the completion of a 10-year teaching career, Lund completed a Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University (2023) in order to better serve the immigrant communities. A key area of interest is the development of entrepreneurial opportunities with immigrant populations. A completed internship with the Family Partnership Unit, Virginia Department of Social Services, has clarified for Lund a keen interest in studying the role of entrepreneurship as it relates to preventative social work practices. Lund’s objective as a doctoral student is to study the intersection of social work and entrepreneurship with a specific focus on immigrant populations.
