Jenée Lee is a doctoral candidate at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work and a Licensed Social Worker in the state of Ohio. Jenée received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology (minor in sociology) from Southern Adventist University (2017) and a Master of Social Work from The Ohio State University College of Social Work (2020).

During her master’s program, Jenée completed an internship and later worked with the Columbus City Attorney’s Office. In this position, she helped develop a court diversion program for older adults facing environmental code violations that enabled many homeowners to remain in their houses safely and for longer periods of time. Moreover, this program helped support keeping good housing available within the city. Recently, she also assisted the office in developing a community engagement model to support apartment complexes that have historically been epicenters of violence, poor physical conditions and low resources.

Jenée’s internship experience informed her research interests in housing quality and fair housing policy. More specifically, she is interested in using qualitative inquiry through the lens of critical race theory and intersectionality to highlight the experiences of historically marginalized communities – especially Black women renters in housing.

In her free time, Jenée enjoys writing, reading fiction, baking, exploring new places and spending time with her friends and family.
